ABOUT NATIONAL PROSECUTING AUTHORITY, Johannesburg

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is the prosecuting authority of South Africa and has the power to institute criminal proceedings on behalf of the State. It is accountable to the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services. In 2004 the NPA purchased Innes Chambers on Pritchard Street to serve as a new multi-purpose facility for the authority

THE BRIEF

Extensive construction work has been completed at Innes Chambers and early in 2014 Clayton Communications were appointed to supply, install and commission the large audio-visual suite in the chamber’s main auditorium.

The auditorium has been designed to use the most cutting-edge technology available, and the architecture allows for this equipment to be installed to fit the aesthetic of the chamber.

Accordingly, the system comprises a 38-seater flush-mount Bosch conference system with integrated Polycom video conferencing (VC), multipoint licence, Quad BRI as well as full touch-panel system control / automation.

The system comprised two HD dome cameras which are programmed to pan to the active microphone on the conference system, various presentation pre-positions and auditorium overviews. These video feeds are displayed via two high-end NEC projectors onto two 2.5m wide fixed-frame projector screens.

Two presentation points are provided at the front of the auditorium each allowing for Power, VGA and HDMI inputs. The input points auto-switch and appropriate scalers and format converters are utilised to take these inputs into an 8 x 8 HDMI Matrix Switcher in the rack.

Presentation video sources and VC streams are controlled via a wireless touch panel in the control room which provides the user with the ability to decide which feeds to display on each of the projector screens and which to send via the VC Codec to the far side.

Presentation audio is run through two Bosch Line Array speakers at the front of the auditorium and conference audio is run through high quality flush mount ceiling speakers in the auditorium ceiling.

ADDITIONAL INFO

Our installation was required to meet the highest aesthetic standards, and so a great deal of time was spent working closely with the architects to ensure that the equipment and installation compliment their designs.

We were also working very closely with the furniture manufacturer Rodlin Design, to ensure that we were able to install the conference system into the furniture media boxes seamlessly. Through various mock-ups we were able to achieve a discrete cable management plan which will conceal cable and installation equipment whilst allowing us to service and maintain the system easily for years to come.
