ABOUT EKURHULENI METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality forms the government of the East Rand region of Gauteng Province. This area covers over 3 million inhabitants and approximately 2,000 square kilometres. The municipal council chambers hosts all highly important council meetings and is where councillors meet to debate, vote and ratify council policy, strategy, by-laws and other business.

THE BRIEF

Clayton Communications was commissioned to design, supply, install and programme a 265-delegate, four language conferencing system to seamlessly integrate with the chamber’s suite of audio visual systems that include video conferencing, video walls, central audio system, and the automation of these systems.

THE MAINTENANCE WORK

The conference system was delivered on time, within budget and according to our design and specification. The system consists of:

  • 265x flush-mounted delegate discussion units with voting, language selection, and ID card readers.
  • 4x interpretation desks.
  • Full suite of software that consists of microphone management, delegate database, simultaneous language interpretation, parliamentary voting, attendance and access control, video streaming.

Our team worked with the main contractor and architect to ensure our installation did not in any way compromise the aesthetic of the new chambers and fully delivered in terms of functionality and installation quality. We also worked closely with the municipality to ensure that our system was programmed best to meet their conference requirements.

The municipality now have a conference system that can handle all their requirements in terms of council voting, recording of meetings in both audio and video, full language distribution for delegates, meeting recording and transcription, ID card recognition that feeds into the recording and voting software so that records can easily be accessed by individual delegates. This makes the filing of all council meetings far more effective, and the archive searching a lot more efficient when archivists need to search for specific meetings and what was said by specific delegates. Ekurhuleni Municipal Municipality now have a world class conference system that meets their meeting requirements and enables far greater efficiency of their administration of these meetings.
